St Augustine’s Anglican Hamilton Parish has offered ministry and community services as part of an historic and ongoing contribution to Brisbane residents and visitors. 2020 marks the Centenary year in which the Church building construction was completed and services began 100 years ago. The church has history going back prior to this, to the earliest days of Brisbane life in Hamilton. The original foundation stone of today’s building was laid in 1919.
As part of this long-standing integration in the lives of people in Brisbane, St Augustine’s has been a way for impacting many with spiritual and social support, and our country’s war services and war memorials. A more public face of the church is its role in baptisms, weddings and funerals.
We always look for community involvement with local residents and a number of charity organisations. Since the 1960’s the Church is well known for its Jumble Sales. At various times there have been events such as election days, fêtes, concerts, bands, and the annual Christmas Carols.
Hamilton and its parish is a growing community. As part of this engagement in our locality and our lives, we work with others to provide public events, supporting the array of events we enjoy in the area each year. Our event financials are designed to cover our costs considering events that may offer profit or loss, and where we enjoy some benefit, it is primarily to our church members and community, our outreach commission, for practical costs such as building and grounds maintenance, or for sharing in help to our charities. Some of our events are arranged by others in the community, and some by ourselves. There is a good degree of scope for initiative and contribution.
